Sports Injuries

The term sports injury, in the broadest sense, refers to the kinds of injuries that occur during sports or exercise. Some sports injuries result from accidents; others are due to poor training practices, improper equipment or footwear, lack of conditioning, poor nutrition, insufficient warmup and stretching or malalignment ie. incorrect biomechanics.

Although virtually any part of your body can be injured during sports or exercise, the term is usually reserved for injuries that involve the musculoskeletal system, which includes the muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, and associated tissues like cartilage.

Management of injuries should be directed towards repair and recovery as well as the factors which may prevent recurrence of the injury. This will often include addressing incorrect foot and lower limb biomechanics and it is not unusual for even small malalignments to be the underlying cause of a problem.
